In 2021, Tejas completed his Honours project on functional subsets of MAIT cells at the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in Ballarat. Tejas’ interest in viral immunology developed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This led him to commence a PhD position in 2022 in the laboratory of Professor Katherine Kedzierska in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology to study influenza-specific immunity across age and is currently in the second year of his PhD. Along side his research, Tejas is active with student and social events within the institute having joined the executive committee of the POSSIM student society as treasurer (2023-2024).

  • Key Achievements
    • Tejas has contributed to papers published in Cell Reports Medicine, Gut and Nature Immunology. He has also presented at various local and international conferences including ASI2022 (Melbourne), VIIN young investigator symposium (Melbourne), ASI2023 (Auckland).

    Research Groups
    • Kedzierska Group

Professor Katherine Kedzierska’s team researches immunity to viral infections, especially the newly emerged SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Her work spans basic research from mouse experiments to human immunity through to clinical settings, with particular focus on understanding universal CD8+ T cell immunity to respiratory viruses. Her studies aim to identify key correlates of severe and fatal respiratory disease in high-risk groups including children, the elderly, Australian First Nations people, pregnant women and patients with co-morbidities.
