Dr Jillian Lau is an early career researcher in the Lewin Laboratory at the Doherty Institute and an Infectious Diseases Physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Alfred Hospital. Her research focuses on studying strategies to cure HIV, including immunotherapy and latency reversal agents. Her PhD studied analytical treatment interruptions (temporary pauses in HIV treatment in the context of a clinical trial) and her postdoctoral research explores factors associated with viral control off treatment. She is passionate about meaningfully engaging of people with HIV in Cure focused research.

Dr Lau completed a postgraduate BMedSc degree (hons) in 2016 and her PhD on clinical studies towards a cure for HIV in 2021 (NHMRC postgraduate scholarship).
She has presented her work at international HIV/AIDS conferences and has received multiple awards including an Australian Society of Infectious Diseases Council Scholarship 2021 and CROI new investigator scholarship 2020.
She was selected as an international rapporteur for the International AIDS Society scientific conference in 2021.

Lewin Group
The focus of the Lewin group is to understand why HIV infection persists on antiretroviral therapy and to develop new strategies to eliminate latency. The lab also researches factors that drive liver disease in HIV-hepatitis B virus co-infection. The lab is also actively involved in COVID in relation to pathogenesis, the use of primary tissue models, and developing therapeutics using gene editing strategies.
