Dr Claire Gordon an immunology scientist and infectious diseases physician. She is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Infectious Diseases Physician in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology and Medical Specialist in the North Eastern Public Health Unit, Austin Health. Claire completed training in infectious diseases in 2011 and then studied T cell memory at Columbia University and the University of Oxford until returning to Melbourne in 2018. Claire is currently working in the Laboratory of Professor Laura Mackay, investigating the identification and function of human tissue-resident memory T cells in infection, cancer and autoimmunity.

Claire’s research focuses on innovative projects that bridge the gap between basic science research and clinical medicine. Claire has made contributions to the understanding of human tissue T cell immunity in health, infection, cancer and autoimmunity, resulting in publications in leading journals such Immunity and Nature Medicine. Claire has been the recipient of numerous fellowships and grants including an ARC DECRA Fellowship, NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, Viertal Clinical Investigator, NHMRC Ideas, ARC Discovery Project, Fulbright scholarship and Endeavour scholarship . Claire established and leads the Australian Donation and Transplantation Biobank which aims to link organ donation with medical research.

The Mackay Lab studies memory T cell responses, with a focus on the signals that control tissue-resident memory T cell differentiation, and a view to harness these cells to develop new treatments against infection, cancer and autoimmune conditions.
