Dr Danielle Ingle completed her B Arts/ B Science at the Australian National University. She then undertook a PhD at the University of Melbourne with Professor Roy Robins-Browne and Professor Kathryn Holt. After graduating in 2017, she then moved to the Australian National University as a Research Fellow investigating the evolution and epidemiology of multi-drug resistant enteric bacteria. She joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Doherty Institute as an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow. This fellowship integrates microbial genomics with population modelling, antimicrobial resistance data and epidemiology of enteric bacterial pathogens that represent significant threats to public health.

  • Key Achievements
    • Danielle’s work has resulted in multiple lead author publications including in Nature Microbiology, New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Infectious Diseases and Nature Communications. She has received multiple awards including the Jim Pittard Early Career Researcher Award from the Australian Society of Microbiology and the Victorian Fellowship. She is an Editor of the journal Microbial Genomics and sits on the Steering Committee of the Global Typhi Genomics Consortium.

    Research Groups
    • Howden Group

Research from Professor Ben Howden’s group uses genomics, molecular biology, epidemiology and clinical studies to address a broad range of issues related to invasive bacterial diseases in humans, especially those caused by staphylococci, enterococci and other antimicrobial-resistant species. Additionally, working closely with scientists in the MDU PHL, they investigate the epidemiology, evolution and spread of bacterial pathogens of public health significance such as Neisseria gonorrhoea, Listeria monocytogenes, Shigella and Salmonella spp., Legionella spp., and carbapenemase-producing gram-negative bacteria.
