Understanding immunity to influenza viruses in patients hospitalised with severe and fatal disease
We aim to identify key correlates of severe and fatal influenza disease in high-risk groups hospitalised through the FluCAN hospital network. Our hypothesis is that disease outcomes in those hospitalised with influenza are associated with specific host factors, overactive innate immunity and/or perturbed adaptive immunity. Our study will identify immunological and host factors that inform new immunotherapy and vaccine protocols and provide biomarkers for clinical and epidemiological studies aimed at reducing influenza disease impact in high risk groups.
