COVID-19 | Now recruiting volunteers
AIRBORNE: Aerosol infection research
Better models to reduce indoor exposure
We are seeking voluntary participants for a simple study that samples the air around you when you have COVID-19. This study is led by Associate Professor Louis Irving at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and is supported by expert physicians and scientists at Western Health, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the University of Melbourne.
Am I eligible to participate?
- Aged 18 to 75 years.
- You currently have a COVID-19 infection that does not require hospitalisation.
- You must be enrolled and commence the study within 72 hours of your first positive rapid antigen test (RATs) or PCR test.
What to expect during the study
- You will spend up to two hours in a room whilst we sample the air around you. There will be 4 to 6 visits spanning over 1-3 weeks.
- You will be asked to perform simple tasks such as passive breathing, speaking, shouting, singing, coughing, and stepping up and down on a simple step for short periods of time. We would like to study how much virus you breathe out into the air whilst performing these simple tasks.
- The study will take place at:
The Royal Melbourne Hospital-Royal Park Campus
34-54 Poplar Rd, Parkville VIC 3052
Reimbursement
We will provide you with parking vouchers for each of your visits and up to $300 in gift vouchers to show our appreciation for your time and contribution to medical research. Your contribution will be used to help us better understand the way the COVID-19 virus is transmitted.
