Spotlight on research and teaching excellence at the Doherty Institute
Six Staff Excellence Awards were presented to Doherty Institute scientists and teaching staff by the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) last week, for their noteworthy and exceptional achievements in research and teaching in 2023.
In line with the Faculty’s strategic plan, Advancing Health 2030, the competitive awards recognise staff for their remarkable contributions to society through the transformative impact of education and research.
Well done to all awardees, with a special mention to the Doherty Institute staff members, who have earned well-deserved credit for their dedication, passion and hard work.

Congratulations to Professor Kedzierska, Dr Rowntree and Dr Nguyen from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Doherty Institute, celebrated for delivering high-impact research by establishing 'ready-to-go' immune protocols for understanding immunity to newly emerging potential pandemic viruses.

University of Melbourne’s Dr Yu May Soh, Educational and Instructional Designer
Congratulations to Dr Clarke, Professor Waller and Dr Soh, from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Doherty Institute, who were presented with the Award for Program Innovation for shaping the next generation of health professionals and researchers by coordinating two new subjects, Discovering Biomedicine and Exploring Biomedicine.
This award was presented jointly to several colleagues, from MDHS and the Faculty of Science, namely Associate Professor Diana Stojanovski, Dr Graham Mackay, Dr Jennifer Fox, Associate Professor Teresa Jones, Dr Lisa Godinho, Dr Charlotte Clarke and Dr Amber Willems-Jones from the School of Biomedical Sciences.
