The Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics was made possible by an incredibly generous $250 million donation from international businessman and philanthropist Mr Geoffrey Cumming – the largest philanthropic donation to medical research in Australia’s history.

“With COVID-19, we realised how a pandemic can fracture society in addition to causing serious health implications. The global economic costs in terms of the enormous loss of global economic output and revenue and the devastating and sharp rise in global unemployment are also deeply threatening facts as well.

The ‘ice’ on which society is standing may be thinner than we had previously thought. Science plays a crucial role in managing health crises, so it’s critical that we continue to fund it. It will help to ‘thicken the ice’ and enhance the resilience of humanity in the inevitable event of the next pandemic.”
